"These bottles have been in my mom's attic for probably a decade. It was some fruit juice thing called Xanga, I think. I filled them up completely to make the dyeing process easier." -
2.
The guy took inspiration from this photo, I don't know whose it is to give credit, but credit is due. -
3.
Filled with these guys- regular food coloring for cake frosting. -
4.
One down, 27 to go. -
5.
"I wasn't real happy with the purple to blue transitions.", It gets fixed later. -
6.
Messy notations - numbers of drops per bottle. -

Just in case someone was interested in the drops per bottle. -

"Next step was to make a board for the bottles to set on. Found this one in the loft of the barn that we've cleaned up. We put carpeting down and host birthday parties, baby showers, and graduations in there. Since this project it too big for any wall in my house, it's finding its home in the barn, as well." -

And sanding began. -

"Used a half empty bottle of old stain on it to help clean up the look." -

"So I actually had to use some algebra or trigonometry or math of some kind to get this to work out properly. There's approximately 8 feet of bottles and a bottle is about twelve inches high. SO, for me to be able to have a level water line across that space I need to figure out the angles to cut either end of the board. I think I ended up making an 8* cut and an 82* cut. The one pictured was done with a chain saw because it was too deep to be done with the circular saw." -
18.
"First positioning. I cut a piece about two inches wide from the leftover board, screwed it to the beam in the back and then screwed the board to that prop piece, as well as screwing the low end of the board into the beam. Just for safety." -
19.
"So here are the bottles waiting to be emptied to the proper amounts. I think at this point I had adjusted the purple/blue transition. It's still not perfect, but it works. The red and orange barrels in the background are called "Barrels of Fun." They all hook together and get pulled behind our golf cart. Kids get to sit in them and ride around. I had lots of fun with them growing up and now my nephews love them too." -
20.
"So by now I know that I might end up getting a bottle or two mixed up as I climb up and down the ladder, so I numbered each bottle with tape and a sharpie and brought these cottage cheese buckets home from work to hold the water I dump out as I try to get the levels correct." -
21.
They got laid out like this across the barn floor. Decreasing levels of water in each one. -
22.
"Oh yeah, how was I gonna do that? What ended up working the best was to screw a string into the beam where I wanted the low point to be and tie the other end to my removable post and level it that way. It ended up working pretty well." -
23.
Removable post is visible on the left side. -
24.
"This was the first look at it from a level vantage point. I think I did pretty good. A few corrections needed around the yellows but that's why I saved the water :)" -
25.
So if you want a cool and original decoration you can do yourself, here you go, give it a try.
